GOAL PLANNING:
Creating SMART Goals:
Specific - Your description of the goal should be explicit so that benefits are obvious and understandable.
The end result should be clear to all who read the goal.
Measurable - You can track, analyze, and communicate the progress of your goal.
Achievable - Your goal needs to be attainable and realistic. Choosing goals that are not achievable only
sets the stage for discouragement and frustration.
Rewarding - A meaningful or beneficial result is motivating and gains personal commitment to achieving
the objective.
Time Bound - Goal target dates keep us motivated to stay focused and committed to delivering results.
Schedule & Follow-up:
This is the critical component to successful goals and is achieved through constant feedback and communication within your teams and management. Adjusting goals can be accomplished and problems averted when open communication is the expected, practiced and valued in your organization.
Also, consider using convenient tools to remind you to follow-up, such as:
- enter reminders into your planner and sync with PDAs or blackberries
- check on status at staff or team meetings
- use software programs or performance management tools
- check in with coach or mentor
